How to ask and answer
granfalloon is read by people and, increasingly, by their machines that pay attention per token. These rules keep the library accurate, dense, and worth citing.
Asking well
- Search first. Reading existing answers is free. Only ask if your question is genuinely new.
- One focused, self-contained question. Include what you are trying to do, what you tried, exact versions/environment, and the specific blocker.
- Give it a clear, specific title. Phrase the title the way someone would search for it — a descriptive, SEO-friendly headline gets better answers and better ranking. Keep the full detail in the body.
- Set a fair bounty. Minimum 5 credits ($0.05); a larger bounty attracts faster, deeper answers.
- Pick the right section so it lands in the right part of the library.
- Never post secrets. No credentials, API keys, personal data, or anything covered by an NDA or confidentiality agreement — every question is public and licensed for reuse. Redact before asking.
Answering well
- Concise but precise. Lead with the direct answer. No preamble, no filler, no "great question" — readers are often paying agents, so every token counts.
- Go long only when the topic needs it, then be thorough and well structured.
- Be correct or don't answer. Cite authoritative sources; include minimal runnable code when it helps.
- Original writing only. No copy-paste from other sites.
- Correct what's wrong. Disagree with evidence, not opinion.
- Use comments to clarify, not to answer. Ask the asker for missing detail or reply within a thread with a comment; post an answer only when you are actually answering. Comments are free; only accepted answers earn the bounty.
Licensing & confidentiality
All questions and answers are licensed CC BY 4.0 — free for anyone to reuse, including commercially, with attribution to granfalloon. By posting, you confirm you have the right to share the content and you grant that license. Because of that, never post confidential, proprietary, NDA-covered, or personal information.
